Utah Master Naturalist Watershed Investigations Course – USU Botanical Center

August 13, 2019 @ 9:00 am - August 15, 2019 @ 5:00 pm USU Botanical Center Wetland Discovery Point

This Watershed Investigations course will be taught in partnership with the USU Botanical Center, and will be based at the beautiful Wetland Discovery Point building.  Class times are 9am-5pm starting Tuesday, August 13, and ending Thursday, August 15.

You will be given access to the Watershed Investigations online course one month before the start of this field course, and you will be required to complete the online course before attending the field course.

This is an adult education program that is open to participants 18 years of age and older.  Exceptions for teens as young as 15 may be made if a parent/guardian is also registering for the course.  Please email Mark Larese-Casanova at marklc@usu.edu if you would like to bring a child as young as 15.

Course Description
From high alpine lakes and streams to the Great Salt Lake and unique temporary wetlands of the arid desert, Utah has a vast diversity of aquatic ecosystems that interact with each other throughout, and across, watersheds.  Come join us while we explore these ecosystems and learn about how they function, the plants and animals that live there, and how they are managed.  Class size is small in order to maximize your opportunities for learning and having fun!

Each Utah Master Naturalist course consists of 40 hours of instruction, with approximately 16 hours covered in the online course, and the remaining 24 hours spent outdoors in a field course.  Field course activities will include instructor-led discussions, guest presentations on relevant resource issues, small group activities, and open discussions.

Due to the nature of the Watershed Investigations course, we will be walking and hiking over some uneven terrain, often in wet environments.  While we do our best to accommodate people of all abilities, please contact Mark at marklc@usu.edu if you have any concerns.

.  Students may pay tuition and register for WATS 6900 to earn three (3) USU graduate credits for each Utah Master Naturalist course.
