Event Description 2: Join the historic 30th Anniversary Utah Juneteenth Celebration on June 14-16. Juneteenth is the oldest event marking the end of slavery in the US which culminated in a huge celebration on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas. The theme, Honoring Our Ancestors, is a call to honor and celebrate the African Experience past, present, and future. It’s also a time to learn more about your own history and family stories, interview family members, and share your stories. The festival is filled with local and national performing artist, vendors, community resources and organizations, storytelling/spoken word, a parade, games and activities for all ages, genealogy session, great food and great people.
June 14th 6:30pm-8:30 pm-The State of Black Utah Town Hall and crowning of Mr. & Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant winners at Weber State University, Davis Campus, Bldg. D-3. Auditorium. The evening program will include a reception and roundtable discussion honoring the voices of our Youth.
June 15 & 16th, 12 noon – 9:00 p.m.: Utah Juneteenth Main Festival Event- Saturday and Sunday at the Ogden City Amphitheater.
Saturday, June 15 is the main event. The Juneteenth Parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at the historic Marshall White Community Center, 222 28th Street (line up at 10 a.m.) and ending at the Ogden Amphitheater. Families, organizations, youth programs, congregations, businesses, are encouraged to sign up and join in the Parade.
Sunday, June 16th is our Father’s Day Tribute. Sunday’s events will include a Gospel music celebration and the inaugural, Willie Moore & Billy Mason “Golden Clipper Barber Battle” to honor two icons in the Salt Lake and Ogden Communities. Both men, helped build a sense of community, served as informal mentors, and counselors, while providing personal grooming for countless men and women of all ages and all backgrounds, including many of our Utah Jazz Players, college students, and local residents over the decades. Witness the artistic skill of some of Utah’s student and professional barbers. Cash prizes and Trophies will be awarded.
