Just past midnight on July 30, 1945, young Lance Corporal Edgar Harrell found himself rocked by the first of four Japanese torpedoes hitting the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis. What followed was ten minutes of shock as the proud, former flagship of the US Navy sank–so rapidly that no distress call was even made. Then, five days and nights of sheer terror, as roughly six hundred crew members were eaten by sharks, literally.
Mr. Edgar Harrell, now a 93-year old veteran, will visit Utah and share his story. He has announced, that at his age that his speaking engagements in November will be the final of his life’s journey. Mr. Harrell has written a book with his experience, with an autographed copy selling for $25. All proceeds directly pay for Mr. Harrell’s travel and lodging.
