The More-Than-Complete Bible Study

March 17 @ 10 am - 11:30 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:00am on Saturday, repeating until March 31, 2018

There’s more than one way to study a Bible story.

Congregational United Church of Christ in Ogden is offering the Lenten course “The More-Than-Complete Bible Study,” which will dive deeply into one particular New Testament passage and consider it in many different dimensions.

All four gospels tell the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people with only a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish. “The More-Than-Complete Bible Study” will look at the way the story is told, how it fits into the larger narrative of Jesus’ life and how it differs among the gospels and in various translations.

The story will be examined through art, music, video and film, as well as through the lenses of different theologies – conservative, prosperity, liberal, liberation, feminist, abundance and LGBTQ, among others. The 1st-century context of the authors and original listeners will be considered, as well as the ways the story speaks to modern society. Participants can expect to encounter politics, science and prayer.

Each of the seven 90-minute sessions of “The More-Than-Complete Bible Study” will be self-contained so that participants can attend as their schedules allow. In other words, missing one session will not impact the enjoyment of following sessions.

“The More-Than-Complete Bible Study” will be held on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m., beginning Feb. 17. The church is located at 3350 Harrison Blvd., behind and up the hill from the Imagine Music building. The class will be held in the yellow office building at the far end of the parking lot.

The course is free, and no registration is required. Call 801-392-5012 for more information.
