Mt. Olympus is a highly popular Wasatch Front trail and this out-and-back hike showcases the lower section. For those unfamiliar with Mt. Olympus, this event will serve as a great introduction as we’ll be ascending about one-third of the way up the mountain. Our itinerary is to hike this iconic trail to the first Tolcats Canyon stream crossing, a round trip trek of about 2.5 miles with an elevation gain of 1450 feet. In the past this has been about a one-hour trek each way, and as such, this short event is perfect for those wanting some Sunday morning exercise without leaving the Salt Lake Valley. On sunny days during winter inversions, this hike almost always ascends to gorgeous blue skies above the smog layer. Micro spikes (or similar) traction devices will be helpful for the icy snow-covered sections. An after-event option is to regroup for warm-up drinks/brunch/lunch and to socialize at nearby Einstein’s Bagels. Meet Elliott in the east-side parking lot of Skyline High School, 3251 East 3760 South at 8:30am to carpool/caravan to the trailhead, or on Wasatch Boulevard at the Mt. Olympus trailhead located at approximately 5400 South Wasatch Boulevard at 9:00am. No dogs
