Modern master Christopher Nolan tells the incredible true story of the unparalleled heroism, bravery and selflessness that saved the lives of 330,000 Allied soldiers. World War II almost ended in 1940, and the Germans almost won. The earliest British invasion of Europe was a disaster, and hundreds of thousands of Allied forces and members of high command found themselves trapped, surrounded by German forces and with the sea to their backs. The troops needed to be evacuated to Dunkirk, across the Channel, but time was tight, and there were not enough ships. Enter the “Little Ships of Dunkirk,” a flotilla of 800 privately owned ferries, fireboats and fishing boats, which helped pluck the soldiers from the beaches and evacuate them safely. It was known as “The Miracle of Dunkirk.”
