Cruisin’ for a Cause

​Cruisin’ For a Cause is a charity event hosted by Heiner’s Insurance Center.  In the past, the event has been a car show that has attracted nearly 100 classic and antique cars every year.  This year, due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, the format of the show has been adjusted to allow a fun, safe, socially distanced event for the community by creating a cruise night through the heart of Ogden City.
​The event will start at a staging area in the Macey’s Grocery Store parking lot, where we will line up vehicles, and make sure that they are registered.  All registration fees will be donated directly to Family Counseling Service of Northern Utah.  Any pre-registration fees will be matched with a donation from Heiner’s Insurance Center.  The staging area will include a registration table, COVID-19 Social Distancing and hygiene posters, and will also include a hand-sanitizing station.  Staging will take place from 6:00-6:30 PM on Friday, August 7th.
​At 6:30, all participants will depart from the staging area, and cruise north on Washington Blvd to Kirt’s Family Drive-in.  Since the event is a cruise night, and not a parade, all vehicles will be traveling at the posted speed limit, and will obey all traffic laws.  The 6 ½ mile drive should take approximately 20-30 minutes for all vehicles to complete, based on traffic lights and traffic flow.  We are hoping for around 100 classic and antique autos to lead the way, but anyone who wishes to can participate in the event.  Upon arrival at Kirt’s Family Drive-in, we will have another hand sanitizing station, as well as an additional COVID-19 poster.  We will have staff placed in both the staging and destination areas to encourage social distancing as participants arrive and depart.
​The charity for this year’s event is Family Counseling Service of Northern Utah.  They are a non-profit organization located in Ogden, who help provide mental health to those who cannot afford health insurance.  All proceeds from the event are donated directly to the charity.  There are three ways we are able to raise money for the charity, and they include the following:  Registration Fees, a drawing, and donations.  The registration fee is $10 per vehicle for day of registration, and $5 per vehicle for pre-registration.  All pre-registration fees are matched by a donation from Heiner’s Insurance Center.  We also hold a drawing at the event, where all of the income is donated directly to the charity.  The drawing prizes are donated by local businesses.  To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, this year’s drawing will be done virtually with the prizes mailed out to the individuals.  We also encourage online donations to the charity as well.
​Our event has always had two objectives to it.  The first is to raise as much money for charity as possible.  The second, is to bring awareness to local businesses.  In these difficult times, many business, especially restaurants and small retailers, are struggling to make ends meet.  In an effort to help out these businesses, we are willing and able to promote them for their help and donations to the event.  We have had great success in the past in our efforts to help local businesses in North Ogden, and with the range of this year’s event, we feel like this will be a great opportunity to help all of the restaurants and small businesses along Washington Blvd, and in Downtown Ogden.
