This performance will take place at the Alpine Church in Layton, UT 254 W 2675 N, Layton, UT 84041 at 7 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
Pianist Tong Liu will present the first half of the concert. She started learning piano when she was eight years old. She studied with Tong Bo, professor at Central Conservatory of Music in China, also with Chinese-American pianist Donghui Ding. She graduated from Brigham-Young University in Idaho studied with Dr. Stephen Thomas.She is now currently studying with Dr. Vedrana Subotic from University of Utah. Before studying at BYUI, she spent two years at California State University, Stanislaus studied with Dr. Benjamin Boren. Tong Liu has been appeared as either a soloist or accompanist world-widely.
The second half of the program will feature the Utah Opera Resident Artists in A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein featuring music from Candide, West Side Story, and Trouble in Tahiti.
Utah Opera’s Resident Artist program employs five Resident Artists who are selected through national auditions to spend nine intensive months with Utah Symphony | Utah Opera. During this time, they participate in vocal and dramatic coaching sessions; in workshops on important aspects of operatic performance, such as stage deportment, movement and language study; and in master classes with acknowledged opera professionals. While they are with the company they also perform in Utah Opera’s main stage productions in the Capitol Theatre, Utah Symphony concerts, and in-school presentations and community concerts throughout the state. The program’s objective is to prepare young singers for the rigorous and competitive world of professional opera, and, through their performances, to introduce Utah’s students to the lively and exciting world of opera.
