Renowned operatic tenor Tau Pupu’a will join Chamber Orchestra Ogden for our March 24, 2018 concert, “Night at the Opera.” Joining Ta’u will be Weber State University faculty member Karen Bruestle. Together they will perform a variety of arias and duets, backed up by the orchestra. The concert will begin at 7:30 at Peery’s Egyptian Theater.
Ta’u Pupu’a is unique in the opera world. He was an outstanding Defensive End in the NFL but a career-ending injury changed his life and led him to a new career: opera. He is just as outstanding in his role as operatic tenor, as shown by the following comments: “…He seems to have limitless power… but the voice has real gold in its best moments.” (New York Times) “…Everyone took notice at his brilliant tone, breath-control and ravishing, powerful tenor…” (Italian Tribune),
Since 2001, soprano Karen Bruestle has been the Director of Voice, Vocal Pedagogy and Opera at Weber State University where her opera directing credits include “The Magic Flute,” “Die Fledermaus,” “Madama Butterfly,” and “The Marriage of Figaro.”
Concert attendees will be treated to performances of such well-known arias as Nessun Dorma from Turandot, Vilia from “The Merry Widow,” La Donna è Mobile from “Rigoletto,” and others. Ta’u and Karen will also join together on the famous duet from “La Traviata,” Brindisi: Libiamo, ne’lieti calici.
The orchestra will open the program with Bellini’s Overture to “Norma,” and will perform the Intermezzo from “Cavalleria Rusticana,” and the final section of Rossini’s Overture to “William Tell,” interspersed between the arias.
Tickets for this concert are $8.00 and may be purchased at the door one hour before the concert, or online at Brown Paper Tickets at the following URL: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3320894
