It’s official: The National coming to Ogden Twilight on Sept. 5

OGDEN — And then there was one …

On Tuesday, Ogden Twilight organizers announced another piece of the 2019 concert series’ puzzle, revealing that The National will perform Sept. 5 at the Ogden Amphitheater.

That leaves just one date — Sept. 17 — remaining to be announced. The lion’s share of the schedule was released last Thursday. Concert series founder Jared Allen had originally said the final dates would be announced in the coming days.

The National is a rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. It won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for its 2017 offering, “Sleep Well Beast.” Their latest album, “I Am Easy to Find,” is due out May 17.

Before announcing The National show, last week Allen teased the Sept. 5 show: “There have been a handful of artists I’ve been trying to get for years, and that one on 9/5 has been a target of mine every single year,” he said. “I’ve flown to two different coasts to meet the agent to try and make that happen, for years. And the only way it came through was with the bigger-dollar ticket.”

On Facebook, Allen said it will have been six years and two albums since the last time The National played Utah. In that time, Allen has flown to see the band 14 times. He calls the Ogden date a “dream come true.”

Special guest for the Sept. 5 date will be Canadian indie pop band Alvvays.

Tickets for The National will be $20; they go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8.
