Vocal jazz group performs free show in Brigham City

BRIGHAM CITY — The next Music in the City concert brings the golden era of song to life.

Hayley Kirkland and Company B will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Fine Art Center, 58 S. 100 West.

Led by singer Kirkland, the group features three female vocalists backed by a jazz quartet. They perform music that evokes the tight harmonies of jazz vocal groups from the 1950s.

The concert series, which continues the third Friday of each month through May, is sponsored by the Excellence in the Community organization.

NEXT Ensemble to play at Ogden restaurant

OGDEN — A belated Valentine’s Day event this weekend promises a romantic dinner and music at a local restaurant.

NEXT Ensemble will present “The Valentine’s Experience” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Union Grill, 315 Historic 25th St. Organizers say they’ll transform the lower level of Union Grill into “the ultimate Valentine’s destination” — complete with reserved seating, a three-course meal, a free glass of bubbly and live music.

The ensemble will perform the ancient tragic romance of the musician Orpheus and his love Euridice, in a song cycle by American composer Ricky Ian Gordon. Featured artists for the evening will be soprano Amanda Steed, clarinetist Cindy Child, and pianist Nicholas Maughan.

NEXT Ensemble is a nonprofit instrumental group with members drawn from Ogden and the surrounding areas. It focuses on offering traditional classical and other music at nontraditional venues.

The event is a fundraiser. Admission is $125 per couple.

‘My Fair Lady’ comes to

Ogden for Valentine’s Day

OGDEN — The Utah Symphony is presenting a special Valentine’s Day concert at Weber State University.

The concert, featuring the music of Lerner & Loewe’s beloved Broadway musical “My Fair Lady,” begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in the Browning Center’s Austad Auditorium on campus, 3848 Harrison Blvd.

The music tells the story of phoneticist Henry Higgins and his linguistics project, the cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle. Broadway singers will be in period costumes to perform the score with the symphony.

The symphony will be conducted by Conner Gray Covington and will feature the voices of Peter Scolari, Susan Derry, Jeff Mattsey, Charlie Tingen, Michele McConnell and Cree Carrico.

The symphony will also present the program on Friday and Saturday evenings at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City.

Tickets to go on sale for Chainsmokers at Vivint

SALT LAKE CITY — The Chainsmokers are bringing their “World War Joy” tour to town this fall.

Tickets for the Nov. 21 show at Vivint Smart Home Arena go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at LiveNation.com.

Brad Paisley coming to

USANA this summer

WEST VALLEY CITY — Tickets go on sale this week for country musician Brad Paisley, who’s bringing his world tour to USANA Amphitheatre this summer.

Paisley will perform June 13 at the outdoor amphitheater in West Valley City. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at LiveNation.com, smithstix.com, and 800-888-8499.

The West Virginia native has had a string of country hits dating back to 1999, including “He Didn’t Have to Be,” “We Danced,” “I’m Gonna Miss Her,” “Mud on the Tires,” “Then” and “Remind Me.”

Appearing with Paisley will be special guests Chris Lane and Riley Green.
