Santa and Mrs. Claus flying to aerospace museum

HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit the Hill Aerospace Museum this weekend.

The Claus couple will arrive via fire engine at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the museum, 7961 Wardleigh Road — just off Interstate 15 Exit 338 in Roy. They’ll give away candy and treats until about 1 p.m.

Santa will be sitting next to the museum’s P-51 Mustang. Cameras are welcome.

Holiday event planned for Eccles art center

OGDEN — The halls of the Eccles Community Art Center’s historic Victorian mansion will be decked this weekend.

The Family Holiday Traditions event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the art center, 2580 Jefferson Ave.

Trees, lights and other decorations will be displayed throughout the center, while the Main Gallery and Carriage House Gallery will be filled with art for both viewing and purchasing.

Artists will supervise children and adults in the creation of make-and-take holiday ornaments. There will also be cookie decorating for children.

Santa will make an appearance at 4:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras.

Entertainment and refreshments will also be provided.

The center requests a suggested donation of $10 per person, or $20 for a family, for the event. Donations are tax-deductible, and will be used to fund art center projects.

Following the Family Holiday Traditions event, the holiday lights will remain on display through Dec. 22. Hours for the Eccles Community Art Center are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

IBT offers traditional ‘Nutcracker,’ jazzy version

OGDEN — Imagine Ballet Theatre’s annual holiday production returns this week.

“The Nutcracker” opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd. It continues at various times and dates through Dec. 22.

The production was choreographed by Raymond Van Mason, with scenery painted by Sherry Ferrin. The New American Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of David Van Alstyne, will perform the Tchaikovsky score.

Tickets are $15 to $29.

For those who feel “The Nutcracker” is a bit too traditional, IBT is also offering a performance of the “Jazzy Nutcracker” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the theater.

This shortened version of the holiday classic features Duke Ellington’s interpretation of the classic Tchaikovsky score. It takes tunes like “The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy” and replaces it with “Sugar Rum Fairy.”

The presentation is being offered by Performing Artists Lengthening Strides and Imagine Ballet Theatre. Choreography is by Raymond Van Mason and Krista Shively.

Voice Male heads to Ogden for Christmas show

OGDEN — Rather than a boy band, they call themselves a “man band.”

Voice Male, one of Utah’s most enduring contemporary a cappella groups, will present its Christmas concert in Ogden this weekend.

Voice Male will sing — sans instruments — at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Browning Center’s Austad Auditorium at Weber State University, 3848 Harrison Blvd.

The a cappella group has been singing together since 1994. Over the course of more than two decades, it has recorded a dozen albums.

Annual carol sing-along set for Sunday night

OGDEN — The 33rd annual Christmas Carol Sing-In takes place this weekend in the Ogden Tabernacle.

All are invited to sing along to traditional, familiar Christmas carols. Lyrics to the songs will be provided.

According to a news release from organizers, the music will “emphasize Jesus Christ as the true meaning of the Christmas season.”

Guest conductor for the evening will be Karen Bruestle, director of the opera and vocal performance areas at Weber State University. Lowell Marriott Harrop will accompany the program on the pipe organ.

The participatory concert takes place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Ogden LDS Tabernacle at 21st Street and Washington Boulevard.

Admission is free.

Santa joining Utah Symphony at Ogden concert

OGDEN — The Utah Symphony will join the jolly old elf in a concert of holiday favorites here next week.

“Here Comes Santa Claus,” featuring the Utah Symphony, will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the Browning Center’s Austad Auditorium at Weber State University, 3848 Harrison Blvd.

In addition to a visit from a certain special guest, the concert will also feature a sing-along with the audience.

Nathan Pacheco brings sold-out concert to Layton

LAYTON — Nathan Pacheco will perform favorite Christmas hymns this weekend at the Davis Arts Council’s "DAC the Halls" event.

The classically trained tenor will be in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Layton High School auditorium, 440 Wasatch Drive.

Pacheco has performed throughout the world with well-known artists like Yanni, Olga Tanon and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. In 2015, Pacheco collaborated with David Archuleta to record “The Prayer,” which rose to No. 3 on iTunes’ holiday charts.

The concert is sold out.
