OGDEN — Jazz combos from Weber State University will take center stage at next week’s Jazz at the Station monthly musical series.
Three student jazz groups from the university will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Grand Lobby of Ogden’s Union Station, 2501 Wall Ave. Admission to the all-ages concert is free.
Although student-led, the combos are coached by WSU faculty members Dan Jonas and Courtney Isiah Smith. The jazz repertoire allows students the opportunity to learn concepts of improvisation and group performance.
“We are so proud to present the jazz musicians of Weber State every time they perform for Jazz at the Station," series co-producer Caril Jennings is quoted in a news release. "This program started more than 20 years ago to encourage student jazz musicians and jazz audiences. It has grown quite a bit since then but we are always happiest when we see jazz traditions carried on by younger musicians.”
Jazz at the Station is supported by grants from Weber County’s R.A.M.P. and Ogden City Arts. It’s sponsored by the Union Station Foundation and WSU Alumni Jazz.
Well-behaved children are welcome at the concerts. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early, as the concerts usually play to a standing-room-only crowd.
