OGDEN — The 21st Utah Humanities Book Festival gets under way this week in Weber County.
The annual festival offers book lovers a chance to enjoy free literary events at various locations throughout Utah during the months of September and October. Organizers say it’s the oldest and only book festival of its kind in the state.

Among the author events planned in Weber County for this year’s festival:
Camron Wright, 7 p.m. Sept. 17, Pleasant Valley Branch, 5568 Adams Avenue Parkway, Washington Terrace. Bestselling author of “The Rent Collector,” “The Orphan Keeper, and “Letters for Emily.”
Tyehimba Jess, 6 p.m. Sept. 18, St. Joseph High School, 1790 Lake St., Ogden. Jess is a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer who bridges the gap between slam and academic poetry.
“North Ogden Through Time,” a book presentation by Holly Fuller, 7 p.m. Sept. 26, North Branch, 475 E. 2600 North, North Ogden. All proceeds from book sales benefit the North Ogden Historical Museum.
Tessa Fontaine, 7 p.m. Sept. 26, Booked on 25th, 147 25th St., Ogden. Fontaine will discuss her new memoir, “The Electric Woman.”
LITerally Podcast presentation, 7 p.m. Sept. 28, Good Company Theatre, 2404 Wall Ave., Ogden. The event features a collection of authors from the podcast, including Deborah Reed, Sean Davis and Sian Griffiths.
Deborah Reed, 7 p.m. Sept. 29, Booked on 25th, 147 25th St., Ogden. Reed is the author of “The Days When Birds Come Back,” “Olivay,” “Things We Set on Fire,” and “Carry Yourself Back to Me.” She has also authored two popular thrillers under the pen name Audrey Braun.
Jimmy Santiago Baca, 7 p.m. Oct 4, in the Hurst Building’s Dumke Hall at Weber State University, 3848 Harrison Blvd., Ogden. Baca wrote “Martin and Meditations on the South Valley,” and penned the screenplay for “Bound by Honor.”
James Kennedy, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12, Treehouse Children’s Museum, 347 22nd St., Ogden. Kennedy is author of “The Order of Odd-Fish,” a young adult fantasy that was one of the Smithsonian’s Notable Books for Children 2008. He is also the founder and curator of the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival.
“Weber County in World War II,” a book presentation by Sarah Singh and Melissa Francis, 7 p.m. Oct. 17, Weber County Library, 2464 Jefferson Ave., Ogden.
Bryan Bushman, 7 p.m. Oct. 25, Pleasant Valley Branch, 5568 Adams Avenue Parkway, Washington Terrace. Bushman, an Ogden psychotherapist and neuropsychologist, wrote “Becoming Okay (When You’re Not Okay).”
Florence Williams, 7 p.m. Oct. 29, Weber County Library, 2464 Jefferson Ave., Ogden. Williams has written the critically acclaimed books “The Nature Fix” and “BREASTS: A Natural and Unnatural History.”
