OGDEN — The long-running “Jazz at the Station” concert series returns next week with a performance by the Lars Yorgason Singers.

The all-ages concert begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Grand Lobby of Ogden’s Union Station, 2501 Wall Ave. Admission is free.

“Rich harmonies, rhythmic expression and improvisational freedom are part and parcel of jazz,” according to a news release on the concert. “Vocal jazz adds meaningful stories set to arresting melodies. This is what the Lars Yorgason Singers do: Combining these jazz qualities into satisfying and moving musical experiences.”

Directed by Lars Yorgason, the group is made up of 13 members from Northern Utah. Yorgason has taught at Weber State University, the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, and has been a board member for the Park City Jazz Festival and Jazz Arts of the Mountain West. He was the Utah Arts Festival Jazz Master for 2006.

The featured ensemble at the concert will be WSU Alumni Jazz and Friends.

The concert is part of the summer season programming for Jazz at the Station. Children are welcome as long as they don’t disturb the performers or other audience members.

Organizers recommend arriving early, as the Jazz at the Station concerts usually command standing-room-only crowds.
