Steve and Shelly Seamons of South Ogden, co-owners of Ye Olde Cupcake Shoppe, say that their ties to England influenced their decision to open an Old English bakery.

"I have baked my whole life and we decided it would be fun to open a bakery," Shelly Seamons said. She has dreamed of opening a place for the past decade and sold cupcakes out of her home for five years before she and her husband decided on a spot in downtown Ogden. Ye Olde Cupcake Shoppe opened for business in November 2011.

Shelly Seamons said she has enjoyed baking a variety of goodies during her life, but cupcakes became her specialty five years ago. Since then, she has tried dozens of recipes and settled on about 60 of her favorites.

The Seamons' cupcakes ($2.89 each) come in lots of flavors -- some of the most popular including lemon, chocolate almond, raspberry, Boston cream and peanut butter. Shelly Seamons declined giving descriptions of her creations, saying that the recipe can vary from day to day.

"We are very untraditional and we make everything completely from scratch using quality ingredients," she said.

Some of the unique flavors include French toast, maple bacon, cherry lime and pink champagne. They also like to whip up cakes English-style -- very dense and rich in flavor.

With family living in England, the couple has visited the country several times over the years.

"I love the bakeries there," Shelly Seamons said.

They decided to decorate their cupcakery in an Old English theme, creating a warm and welcoming ambience.

Once a month, the store hosts a reservations-only tea party, so guests can enjoy scones, drinks and quiet time with loved ones.

"It is a time for friends and loved ones to be together without all the hustle and bustle of everyday life," Shelly Seamons said.

Ye Olde Cupcake Shoppe also makes custom wedding and birthday cakes (starting at $25) and hosts birthday parties for up to 10 children. The parties include a craft, a game and -- of course -- cupcakes.
