The wonders of astronomy are celebrated with star parties Friday and Saturday sponsored by the Ogden Astronomical Society.

At 6 p.m. Friday, folks can mark National Astronomy Day with a star party at Kent’s Market, 5600 S. 3500 West, Roy.

Telescopes will be provided for looking at the night sky and information will be available on how to buy your own telescope. The party continues until 11 p.m. and admission is free.

The society’s summer star party season at Antelope Island State Park’s White Rock Bay begins Saturday. Folks should arrive before 8 p.m.; those who come earlier can look at the sun through solar telescopes.

Saturn, Venus, Mars and Mercury should be visible, along with galaxies and various stars. Free star maps will be provided.

Members of the astronomical society and the Ott Planetarium staff at Weber State University will be on hand to help participants locate objects in the sky.

The series continues with star parties June 4, Aug. 20, Sept. 11, Oct. 1 and 22.

Admission is $9 per vehicle; the park is located west of Syracuse off Interstate 15’s Exit 332.

The star parties will be canceled if the sky is overcast. For more information on the events, call 801-390-0823.
