The Taste of Downtown event returns to the annual Ogden Arts Festival for a second year, after catering to a sellout crowd of 300 in 2011. The tasting runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 8.
Organizers have increased the number of available tickets to 400 for 2012, but they expect sales to be brisk and suggest making an advance purchase from the website, ogdenartsfestival.com, or in person at the business office inside Union Station between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Tickets are $10, with a portion of the proceeds going to support the Union Station Foundation.
Taste of Downtown patrons are treated to food from eight of Ogden's finest downtown restaurants, with signature dishes such as homemade lasagna from Rovali's Ristorante Italiano and a caramel bread pudding from Union Grill.
"The caramel bread pudding is just heaven," organizer Tracy Ehrig said of the rich dessert.
Other restaurants participating this year include Tona Sushi Bar and Grill, Two Bit Street Cafe, Roosters, MacCool's Public House, Crowley Gallery and Café, and Jasoh!
Restaurants participate by invitation and are donating their time and food to help raise money for the foundation.
"We appreciate them so much," Ehrig said.
Diners will have a chance to view the Plein Air Art Exhibit, with pieces created by artists painting in the outdoors around town earlier in the week. The pieces will be available for bid in a silent auction ending Saturday, June 9.
For the first time, there will be 23 artist booths set up beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, in addition to all day Saturday, so that diners at the Taste of Downtown will be able to mingle with artists participating in the festival. Outdoor seating will be provided, weather permitting.
"It will be fun for everyone," Ehrig said. "This is a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the arts and support Union Station and the restaurants on 25th Street. We always have fun and everybody loves a party at Union Station."
