OGDEN — The Ogden Eccles Community Art Center has selected winners for its 38th Annual Statewide Competition.
Eric Zschiesche of Ogden won third place for his piece “On 15.” First place went to Brock Thorne of Vernal for “Self Portrait,” and second place went to Irene Rampton of Salt Lake City for “Feline Fantasy.”
Honorable mentions went to Jerry Fuhriman of Providence for “South of Jake’s Place,” Joyce Rawson of Clinton for “Fear of Dragons Change With Time,” Linda Lee Shimmin of Vernal for “Crazy Eights,” Susan Slade of Salt Lake City for “Spring Sampler,” and Bessann Swanson of Salt Lake City for “Carving Out Death.”
Recognition awards were given to other artists who did not receive honorable mentions, but were judged deserving of recognition for their work. These included C. H. Bradford of Brigham City for “Bread, Cabbage and Bird,” Jennifer D. Sorensen of Huntsville for “Quilt Hut,” Mac Stevenson of Ogden for “Liberty Morning,” Suzanne Storer of Ogden for “Addiction,” and Mary Wells of Ogden for “26 Dragons.” Others were Victoria Acoba of Salt Lake City for “Artichoke Tea” and Terrel Van Leeuwen of Sandy for “9 Lives.”
The Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave., will display all of the 242 contest entries through Sept. 1. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
