'Memorial Day: A Tribute to Sacrifice and Freedom'

10 a.m.-4 p.m., military and home front displays; 2-3 p.m., film screening, "For Love of Liberty: The Story of America's Black Patriots"; 4 p.m., "Salute to the Fallen" program with music and release of balloons.

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Weber County Library pays tribute to the men and women who serve the country with a special event on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 19.

The program, "Memorial Day: A Tribute to Sacrifice and Freedom," starts at 10 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley branch library, 5568 S. Adams Ave.

Military artifacts and vehicles from Hill Aerospace Museum and other organizations will be on display until 4 p.m.

The documentary "For Love of Liberty: The Story of America's Black Patriots" will be shown at 2 p.m. in the library. The PBS production includes appearances by Colin Powell and Halle Berry, and features readings from letters, diaries, speeches and military records documenting the sacrifices and accomplishments of African-American servicemen and women.

The event ends at 4 p.m. with a ceremony presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Ogden Post 1481. The formal ceremony includes a performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" by Bonneville High School's Tapestry Choir, a "Salute to the Fallen," and a balloon release.

The program is free, and includes light refreshments.
