MOUNT CARMEL — Dallen Christensen, a high school student from Hooper, was awarded a scholarship to participate in Maynard Dixon Country 2012.
Christensen is one of three students selected to be part of the art event, held Aug. 24-26 in Mount Carmel, in the former home and studio of artist Maynard Dixon. The event features seminars, plein-air painting and art sales, and is a fundraiser for the Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts and the Maynard Dixon Living History Museum.
Some seminars and sales, mostly during daytime hours, are free and open to the public. Evening events are ticketed, with most costing $150. A complete schedule, and online reservations, are available at www.thunderbirdfoundation.com.
Christensen, the only artist selected from the Top of Utah, will be mentored by one of the nationally known artists invited to the event. His mentor will offer pointers on creating art, and on understanding art as a career.
