To celebrate its eight-year-anniversary, Crowley Gallery and Café plans to hold a cook-off to add new selections to the menu.
Owner Tami Crowley said the cafe, which was added to the art gallery just last year, has already introduced a new selection of wraps to its menu of international fare.
For the contest, participants will be given the list of ingredients already available for the regular menu and asked to invent something new. The entrees will then be judged at a party on July 16, and the top three dishes will be added to the menu.
Some favorites among the new wraps are the Matisse ($9.95), with lightly blackened tilapia, sharp cheddar cheese, fresh tomato and tarragon mayonnaise wrapped in a grilled spinach tortilla; the Chicken Salad Wrap ($7.95), with fresh chicken salad, chopped romaine and choice of dressing rolled in a spinach tortilla; and the El Greco ($6.95), with spicy black beans, rice, sharp cheddar cheese, cilantro and Greek yogurt in a sun-dried tomato tortilla.
Some popular sandwiches include the Philly Style Au Jus ($8.95), with roast beef, onions, green peppers and Swiss or pepperjack cheese; the Media Noche ($8.95), with turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, sweet pickles and mustard; and Lechon Asado ($7.95), with Cuban-style shredded roast pork, onions, fresh lime and hot sauce.
The café caters to gluten-free and vegan customers and offers gluten-free tortillas for dishes such as the Quesadilla Creations ($4.50). Customers can choose two cheeses, one meat and one vegetable or three vegetables to be grilled inside a tortilla and served with sour cream and salsa.
Crowley offers off-site catering as well as a space upstairs to seat up to 80 for banquets and private parties. The upper level is also home to a yoga company; the lower level showcases paintings, jewelry and pottery from local artists, and an antique store.
The business has also begun hosting ladies’ tea socials as well as luncheons for local clubs, wine tastings and wedding receptions.
