OGDEN — Flying cars, ABBA singalongs and the story of a country singer are all featured in film screenings this week and next at Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd.
• Saturday, July 28: “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” plays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. This 1968 classic musical, set in the 1910s, stars Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes. It includes songs such as “Truly Scrumptious,” “Hushabye Mountain” and “Toot Sweets.”
This showing of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” which is rated G, is sponsored by the Weber County RAMP program. Admission is free.
• Wednesday, Aug. 1: From “Super Trooper” to “Dancing Queen,” belt it out like a pop star during a singalong screening of “Mamma Mia” at 7 p.m. The 2008 film features some of ABBA’s best-known songs performed by Meryl Streep (Donna Sheridan), Amanda Seyfried (Sophie) and — yes, it’s true — former “James Bond” star Pierce Brosnan (Sam Carmichael). The story revolves around Sophie’s wedding and the arrival of three men who could be her father.
Filmgoers are encouraged to wear 1970s-inspired costumes to the PG-13 movie. Tickets are $5.
• Aug. 3: A fictionalized account of the last days of a famous country singer is the basis of “The Last Ride: A Story of Hank Williams,” screening at 7 p.m. Henry Thomas stars as Williams in the 2012 film, which is rated PG-13. Jesse James is Silas, a young mechanic Williams hires to drive him through the Appalachian countryside to his next performances.
Admission is $8.
