BOUNTIFUL — Sidewalk chalk isn’t just for kids — professional and amateur artists can create magic with it.
Bountiful’s annual Chalk Art Festival begins Wednesday, May 16, and continues 8 a.m. to dusk daily, through May 19.
“It’s become a great tradition for the community to bring their families down, and stroll up and down Main Street,” said Jane Joy, founder of the organization sponsoring the event, The Joy Foundation. “It’s a way of bringing the community together, without anyone having to buy and sell anything, to just enjoy people’s gifts.”
The artists start working on their masterpieces at 8 a.m. Wednesday, on the sidewalks along Main Street from 500 South to 400 North. All images must be finished by 6 p.m. May 18, for judging.
The Joy Foundation shares art and art techniques with youth, and some of the young artists will be mixed in with the local amateur and professional artists creating works in chalk.
The festival features entertainment on May 18, mostly provided by local bands. On Saturday, it will be open mic night for youth.
Admission to the Chalk Art Festival is free. Donations toward next year’s event are appreciated.
