ANTELOPE ISLAND — Antelope Island State Park will offer four events on Saturday, Aug. 18, including a birthday party and guided tours of the Fielding Garr Ranch.

• The “Deserts Are Not Deserted” program focuses on animals and plants specifically adapted to living in the island’s harsh environment. The easy, one-hour hike begins at 10 a.m. in the visitor center parking lot.

• “Frary Homestead and Mulberry History Hike” begins at 10 a.m. at the mile marker 8 parking lot. Here, guests can go on a moderate four-mile hike to the Frary Homestead and Mulberry Grove to discuss the history surrounding the areas. Reservations for this hike should be made in advance.

• “Fielding Garr Birthday Celebration” will begin at 11 a.m. and includes guided tours of the Fielding Garr Ranch, which was established by rancher Fielding Garr and the LDS Church in 1848.

• A cowboy poetry session begins at 6 p.m. and includes readings by poets Stan Tixier and Steve Spencer, both of Eden.

The park is west of Syracuse, off Interstate 15’s Exit 332. Admission is $9 per vehicle.
