The HillBenders return to Ogden! OFOAM fans remember their electrifying performances at the 2013 Ogden Valley Roots and Blues Festival and the 2014 Ogden Music Festival.
From the Lesfetz Letter…
“…and when the HillBenders blew into the “Overture” Friday night, tears came to my eyes. …this bluegrass version…IT WAS FULLY ALIVE! And when “We’re Not Gonna Take It” faded into the ether there was only one option… A STANDING OVATION!” – Bob Lesfetz on seeing the HillBenders perform The Who’s “Tommy” at the Levitt Pavilion Pasadena
The HillBenders’ re-telling of The Who’s Tommy, the first great rock opera, shows that bluegrass music is not only capable of doing this sort of thing, but that it is uniquely suited for it. Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry is a remarkably well-executed performance of a complicated piece by what amounts to a versatile and skilled chamber group.
The HillBenders’ performance of Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry has garnered well deserved and well-respected reviews, including a rave review from legendary music blog The Lesfetz Letter. Bob Lesfetz marveled at the performance and gave The HillBenders a standing ovation for their take on the classic. To read the blog review click here.
“This sure ain’t your father’s bluegrass. The HillBenders load creative volatility and virtuoso Americana into a powder keg of expressive, acoustic stringdom.” – Mark Uricheck, Elmore Magazine
“Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry is a grand listening experience crafted by great musicians who expertly weave together Townshend’s myriad musical tropes into a seamless one-hour performance.” – Aaron Keith Harris, Lonesome Road Review
You haven’t heard ‘Acid Queen’ until you’ve seen it sung by a bearded man with a mandolin.” – Rolling Stone
