Rob Anderson, chairman of the Davis County Republican Party, will seek the top spot in the Utah Republican Party.

“We are in dire need of vision, leadership, fiscal responsibility and accountability,” he said in a statement Wednesday announcing his plans. “The Democrats are energized and organized. Now isn’t a time for complacency we have seen from our party leadership.”

James Evans currently serves as chairman of the state party and he will be seeking election to his third term when state Republicans meet on May 20 to select a slate of party leaders for a new cycle.

“I want a chance to finish what we started,” Evans said in a statement earlier this year announcing his intentions. “We’ve navigated the party through a very difficult time and have been very successful.”

Anderson, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel who lives in Bountiful, expressed support for involving more people in the party, “with an emphasis on women and millennials, as both are currently underrepresented.”

The state party leaders are to be selected at a convention at South Towne Exposition in Sandy. The party’s vice chairman, secretary and treasurer are also to be picked.
