Bolomboy, Woodhall headline winners at 2017 State of Sport Awards

Former Weber State and current Utah Jazz forward Joel Bolomboy was named the top male collegiate athlete Thursday night at the 2017 Utah Governor’s State of Sport Awards at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.

The sixth annual awards, hosted by the Utah Sports Commission, celebrates Utah’s sports industry and honors excellence in high school, amateur, collegiate, adaptive, Olympic and professional sports.

Syracuse High athlete and Paralympic medalist Hunter Woodhall was named adaptive male athlete of the year. He won last year’s high school male athlete honor.

NBA Hall of Famer and former Jazz coach Jerry Sloan was presented with a lifetime achievement award, and late BYU football coach LaVell Edwards was honored with the Legends Award.

Other winners included BYU soccer’s Ashley Hatch (female collegiate athlete of the year) and Jazz center Rudy Gobert (pro male athlete of the year).
