OGDEN — This weekend, Chamber Orchestra Ogden will present a concert featuring music inspired by fairy tales from around the world.

“Fairy Tales Come Alive in Music” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd.

The program will include “The Witches Ride,” “The Sandman Song,” and “Evening Prayer” from “Hansel and Gretel”; “The Queen of the Night” from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”; Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite”; and music from “Beauty and the Beast,”

A special highlight will be a woodwind quintet performing an arrangement of the Rimsky-Korsakov piece “The Flight of the Bumblebee,” from the opera “Tsar Saltan.”

Two soloists will be featured in the concert, coloratura soprano Cheryl Fowers and mezzo-soprano Kiersten Erickson. Fowers is a Weber State University graduate, and Ericksonis a recent graduate of the University of Utah.

Two young dancers from Imagine Ballet Theatre — Issac Haraala and Alison Umbrell — will dance as Hansel and Gretel in “Dream Pantomime.”

As part of the evening, Chamber Orchestra Ogden is partnering with WSU Summer Strings Program and The Local Artisan Collective to offer a silent auction of fairy tale-related artwork. Works by Collin Noortmann Chandler, Mark Seawell Photography, Roberta Glidden, and Suzanne Storer will be auctioned to raise money to send disadvantaged children to art or music camp.

The silent auction begins an hour before and continues an hour after the concert. For information on donating artwork, email contactchamberorchestraogden.org or call 801-624-9232.

Saturday’s concert is open to families — the only age restriction is no babes-in-arms.

Tickets are $8, available at 801-689-8700 or through smithstix.com.
