OGDEN — Think lions and tigers and bears are frightening? They’ve got nothing on witches and zombies and monsters.

Oh, my.

The annual Witchstock celebration returns Oct. 27, bringing its three traditional Halloween-themed events to an unsuspecting downtown — the Witches Tea, the Zombie Crawl, and the Monster Bash. Events are held in and around the Ogden Amphitheater, 343 Historic 25th St.

“It’s just a fun Halloween-centered night with zombies, witches and monsters,” said Danielle Collier, marketing and communications coordinator for the Ogden Downtown Alliance, one of the sponsors of the event. “It’s three different organizations coming together for one big event.”

The afternoon/evening begins with the Witches Tea, the only event of the three that isn’t free. The costumed tea party features a witches fashion show and a costume contest, along with aerial performances and much more. The event benefits the Jr. Junior League of Ogden. Tickets are $25, available through www.eventbrite.com.

Collier says the Witches Tea is extremely popular, and those interested in attending should get their tickets as soon as is inhumanly possible.

“The Witches Tea is always sold out,” she said. “That’s something people have been asking about for the last six months.”

Following the Witches Tea is the popular Zombie Crawl along Historic 25th Street. Zombies and zombie hunters begin gathering at the Ogden Amphitheater at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. crawl. Basically, folks dressed as the undead will shuffle down the street to Union Station and back to the amphitheater. Admission is free.

Then it’s time for the Monster Bash, running from 8-10 p.m. in the amphitheater. Attendees will dance to a deejay, and food, beverage, beer and wine will be available for purchase.

“From my understanding, the Monster Bash is the newest of the three events — it’s only been done a year or two,” Collier said. “But last year it was pretty packed inside the amphitheater for it.”

Collier said costumes are “highly encouraged,” and that while masks are allowed, for security purposes they’ll do a bag and mask check at the gate.

“Grab your friends, neighbors and family, dress up and come enjoy Witchstock,” Collier said. “You’ve got the tea, the crawl and the bash, and then we like to say the witches, zombies and monsters all come together at the end of the night.”
