OGDEN — This month, they might want to change the name of the venue to “Scary’s Egyptian Theater.”
A trio of funny bone- and spine-tingling Halloween events are coming to Peery’s Egyptian Theater this month, including screenings of “Little Shop of Horrors” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” as well as the dance spectacular “Thriller.”
The fun starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, with a presentation of the 1986 fantasy/science fiction musical “Little Shop of Horrors.” Starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and Steve Martin, “Little Shop” tells the story of a down-on-his-luck florist shop worker who discovers and raises a strange, man-eating plant from outer space. The film is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 104 minutes.
Ticket are $5.
On Oct. 19-20, Odyssey Dance Theatre will present its Halloween spectacular “Thriller.”
Returning to this year’s show are all the favorite choreographed pieces from past years — including “Thriller,” “Dem Bones,” “Jason Jam,” “Salem’s Mass” and “River of Blood Dance” — as well as a few new surprises. Organizers warn that “Thriller” is not for children under the age of 8 or “the faint of heart.”
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and 20, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 20.
Tickets are $27.
Finally, on Oct. 27-28, the theater presents a genuine Halloween cult classic, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” The 1975 musical comedy/horror stars Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as newlyweds who get a flat tire during a rainstorm. They take shelter in a creepy mansion owned by Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite scientist played by Tim Curry, and things spiral out of control from there.
The movie has become famous for inspiring audience members to dress as characters, talk back at the screen and use various props throughout the show. Organizers are confident this event will sell out, so they encourage those interested to purchase tickets well in advance.
Tickets are $14.50, and prop bags are included. Pre-show entertainment will be provided, and audience members are encouraged to dress in costumes.
