Upcoming Basin Beer Fest is basically a mini Oktoberfest

It’s a little like Oktoberfest, except it’s all rolled into one convenient, compact afternoon.

The Basin Beer Fest returns to Snowbasin Resort on Oct. 7, offering samples of craft brews as well as a concert headlined by The Young Dubliners.

The event will run from noon to 5:30 p.m. on that Sunday at Snowbasin Resort, 3925 E. Snowbasin Road, above Huntsville. All ages are welcome, but beer drinkers must be 21 or older.

Sample beers will be offered from more than a dozen craft breweries, including Kiitos, Shades of Pale, Red Rock, Epic, Park City, Roosters, Uinta, Bohemian, Talisman, Wasatch, Squatters, Moab and RoHa. Bavarian-inspired foods and treats will also be available, including grilled bratwurst with sauerkraut; and a sausage platter with knackwurst, bratwurst, German potato salad and sauerkraut.

Snowbasin Beer Fest Mugs will be offered for sale at the festival, or use your Blues, Brews & BBQ Mug from the summer concert series.

Tokens are $2.50 each, good for a six-ounce pour.

Several Basin Beer Fest packages will be available, including:

• Beer Fest Sample Mug, with four tokens, for $30

• Brew Master Sampler, which includes a Beer Fest Sample Mug and 10 tokens, for $45

• The King of Beer Fest, featuring a Beer Fest Sample Mug, with 20 tokens, a special “King of Beer Fest” crown, and front-of-the-line service as long as you’re wearing the crown. This one is limited to the first 50 purchasers, and organizers say they will sell out of this package.

Music begins at noon with the band Underground Cash. The Ogden-based Johnny Cash tribute show features Tim Smith on vocals/guitar, Cameron Goldsberry on bass, Jesse Hodshire on lead guitar/vocals, and Nathan Chappell on drums.

At 2 p.m., Angela Perley and the Howlin’ Moons will take the stage. Formed in Columbus, Ohio, in 2009, the group describes its music as splitting the difference between rock ’n’ roll, Americana and “dreamy psyhedelia.” The four-piece features Perley on vocals/electric guitar/musical saw, Chris Connor on lead guitar, Billy Zehnal on bass, and a rotating roster of drummers. The band recently released a live in-studio EP of songs, called “Stereogram Sessions,” and is currently working on its third studio album.

The Irish rock band The Young Dubliners will anchor the concert with a 4:15 p.m. performance. With eight albums of original material and one cover album of Irish songs, the band has become a favorite among audiences across the country. The group has appeared on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” had songs featured in TV shows (including “Sons of Anarchy”), and toured extensively. They’ve shared the stage with everybody from Collective Soul and Jethro Tull to Los Lobos and Chris Isaak.

No outside food or beverage is allowed. Dogs are welcome, but must remain on a leash and stay on grassy areas. Umbrellas, shade tents and lawn chairs are also permitted.
