Really, really, really good pizza (It’s really good)

Really, really, really good pizza (It’s really good)

OGDEN — I’m not breaking any news here. If you’ve lived or worked in Ogden for any reasonable amount of time, you’ve probably eaten at, or at least heard of, Lucky Slice Pizza.

And if you’ve eaten there and if you’re palate isn’t completely broken, you probably think it’s pretty good, too.

But I’ll go beyond that. For my money, Lucky Slice has the best pizza in Ogden. With no rival.

So when three self-proclaimed dudes (Mike McDonald, Will Shafer and Nick VanArsdell) decided to go into business together and in 2012 open up a pizzeria on the corner of Historic 25th Street and Lincoln Avenue, I can honestly say they really did Ogden a solid.

And since the original opened, they’ve also done solids for Clearfield (1246 S. Legend Hills Drive), Logan (64 Federal Ave.) and Eden (6965 E. Powder Mountain Road).

They also have two food trucks, deliver and do catering.

Andrew Tims has worked at the Ogden Lucky Slice for about two years. He said the Carnivore (red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, sausage and ‘Merican bacon) and the Lucky 7 (red sauce, mozzarella, sausage, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, green peppers, white onions, black olives and mushrooms) are two of the restaurant’s best-sellers.

Ditto for the BBQ Chicken (BBQ sauce, mozzarella, roasted chicken, red onions, tomatoes and roasted red peppers) and the Marghie (red sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, garlic, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, fresh basil and balsamic reduction).

“I could really include about 10 pizzas,” Tims said, when thinking about best-sellers. “People like all different kinds.”

The New York-style, thin crust pizza comes by the slice (there are different options for each day of the week, though cheese and pepperoni, the Marghie, the Carnivore and a monthly selection are served up daily) or by the whole pie.

My personal favorites are the Lucky 7, the Blue Moon (red sauce, mozzarella, bacon, white onions, mushrooms and bleu cheese) and the Bianca (a basic cheese pizza without the sauce). The Bianca isn’t on the menu, but if you ask for it, they’ll make it for you. They make it for me.

And, of course, you can also build your own pizza. Lucky Slice has loads of options. When creating your culinary chef-d’œuvre (look it up), you can choose from seven sauces, six cheeses, six meat selections, and 22 vegetables. (And fruits, if you go with pineapple. Or tomatoes, technically).

The restaurant also has a full vegan menu, desserts, appetizers, salads and wings.

In addition to being really, really good, Lucky Slice is fast, too. No matter how packed the placed is (it’s usually packed) my pizza always seems to be on the table faster than I thought it would be. So if you’re on your lunch break, in a rush, it’s the perfect option.

But you probably already knew all this — it’s Lucky Slice.

I recently had a late lunch at the Ogden restaurant and as sat outside eating two slices of Carnivore, a man and what appeared to be his pre-teen daughter walked by me. The young girl asked, “Dad, have you ever been to this place?” He answered, “Lucky Slice? Of course. Many, many times.”

I don’t think he’s the only one.
